Introduction
Error 8566 occurs when a SKU does not match any existing ASIN in Amazon's catalog, and the product data provided is not eligible for ASIN creation. Amazon limits how many new ASINs a seller can create, particularly when the seller has not yet established a sufficient sales history. As sales grow over time, ASIN creation capacity increases.
Cause
This error has two main causes:
- Insufficient sales history: new sellers, or sellers with limited sales activity, are subject to Amazon's ASIN creation capacity limits. The capacity grows as sales performance improves.
- Established sellers who have created a high number of new ASINs: Amazon may temporarily remove the ability to create new ASINs if an unusually large number have been created within a short period. This status is re-evaluated on a monthly basis.
NB: error 8566 is closely related to error 8571. Error 8566 indicates that ASIN creation capacity is insufficient based on sales history or a monthly cap. Error 8571 indicates that a weekly ASIN creation limit has been reached. See the Amazon: error 8571 article for details on the weekly limit.
Resolution
The appropriate resolution depends on which cause applies to your account:
- New sellers: continue growing your sales history on Amazon. As your sales performance increases, your ASIN creation capacity increases too. Prioritize listing products that can match existing ASINs in the catalog, as matching existing ASINs does not count against your creation limit.
- Established sellers who have hit a monthly cap: your ASIN creation status is re-evaluated every month. Contact Amazon Selling Partner Support to understand your current status and whether an increase to your capacity is possible.
NB: before concluding that ASIN creation capacity is the cause, verify that the product ID submitted is correct. An incorrect product identifier that does not match any ASIN can also trigger error 8566. See the Amazon: error 8560 article for guidance on product ID validation.
