Amazon: error 8005
About this article
This article explains what Amazon error 8005 means, why it occurs, and how to resolve it on ChannelEngine.
Table of contents
Introduction
Error 8005 occurs when you attempt to change an identity attribute for a SKU that already exists in the Amazon catalog. Identity attributes are core product identifiers – such as product type, brand, or GTIN – that determine which ASIN a SKU is associated with. Changing these attributes would cause Amazon to associate the SKU with a different ASIN, which is not permitted while the SKU is active. The SKU must be deleted and recreated with the updated identity attributes.
Cause
This error is triggered when product data submitted for an existing SKU contains a change to one or more identity attributes. Common scenarios include:
- A product's GTIN, brand, or product type has been updated in your source catalog, and the change has been pushed to Amazon.
- An incorrect identity attribute was submitted when the SKU was created, and you are now trying to correct it.
- A content mapping or categorization change on ChannelEngine has altered a field that Amazon treats as an identity attribute for the affected SKU.
Resolution
To resolve error 8005, apply an update to the product via the Content mappings and Product selection steps on ChannelEngine:
- Go to Mappings, Content Mappings, then All products.
- In Update type, create an override for the product and set the attribute to Clear and overwrite.
- Go to the Product selection step, and go to the product selection that contains the affected product.
- Click the edit button (pencil icon).
- To temporarily remove the affected SKU from the product selection, add the filter: IF Merchant product number not equal to [insert the affected Merchant product number here]. You can use any other identifier that is unique to the product.
- Wait 24 hours before relisting the affected SKU.
- To relist the product, remove the filter that excluded the Merchant product number.
