ChannelEngine: Revenue tab (statistics)
About this article
This article describes the Revenue tab of the Statistics module and how to use it to monitor your gross and net merchandise value across orders and products.
Table of contents
Introduction
The Revenue tab of the Statistics module provides a high-level summary of your sales performance. Use the Revenue tab to monitor key metrics and compare current statistical data against previous periods.
The tab has two view modes: Per order and Per product. Each mode has its own filters and widgets.
Requirements
Before you can access the Revenue tab, make sure the following requirements are met:
- To use the Segments filter and the segment performance widgets in the Per product view, provide values for the Segment field via a product feed or the Merchant API endpoints.
- Pricing v2 is required to use the surplus calculation. If you currently use pricing v1, activate pricing v2 before you continue:
- In the Pricing step of a channel, click Get started to start configuring pricing v2. Pricing v1 stays active, so you can set up pricing v2 side by side.
- To check the accuracy of your pricing v2 setup, refer to the ChannelEngine: pricing v2 migration guide and complete every step in the activation checklist.
- When you are ready to fully switch to pricing v2, choose one of the following options:
- Click Request support activation and submit a request. Our Support team will verify your pricing v2 configuration before activating it.
- Click Activate pricing v2 (self-service) and activate pricing v2 yourself on the selected channel. Pricing v1 will be removed, and pricing v2 will take over immediately.
View modes
In the top right corner of the tab, use the view mode selector to switch between Per order and Per product. The view mode determines which filters and widgets are available:
- Per order - revenue aggregated at order level. Use this view to monitor your KPIs, track performance over time, and compare channels and delivery countries.
- Per product - revenue aggregated at product level. Use this view to find the brands, segments, channels, and individual products that drive your revenue.
Metrics
In both view modes, the metric selector offers the following options:
- Total GMV including VAT - total gross merchandise value (GMV) including the sales tax/VAT. This reflects the total gross revenue from all customer checkouts before deductions, such as returns or cancelations are factored in.
- Total GMV excluding VAT - total GMV minus the sales tax/VAT. Use this to track top-line sales growth independently of regional tax rates.
- Total GMV after cancelations including VAT - total GMV including the sales tax/VAT. This metric deducts cancelations only.
- Total GMV after cancelations excluding VAT - total GMV minus the sales tax/VAT. This metric deducts cancelations only.
- Total NMV including VAT - net merchandise value (NMV) including the sales tax/VAT. This metric deducts cancelations and refunds.
- Total NMV excluding VAT - NMV minus the sales tax/VAT. This metric deducts cancelations and refunds.
Per order view
The Per order view contains four key metric cards, a performance graph, a channel performance section, and a country performance section.
The channel and country sections each contain a pie chart and a table. In the pie charts, the center displays the combined total for the selected period and filters, each color-coded segment represents a share of the selected metric, and the legend below the chart lists the items included. Hover over a segment to see its detailed metrics.
Key metrics
At the top of the tab, four cards highlight your KPIs. Each card displays the current total, the percentage change (increase or decrease), and a comparison value from the previous period, e.g.: Last month up to day 8.
- Your selected metric, e.g.: GMV, showing your total sales during the selected period.
- Orders - the total number of orders placed during the selected period.
- AOV (Average Order Value) - the average amount spent per order.
- Surplus - the revenue earned by selling a product above its minimum price. Calculated as: Surplus = (Selling price - Min. price) × Quantity sold. To see accurate calculations of your surplus, activate pricing v2 on your connected channels.
Performance graph
The main line graph shows performance data for the metric selected in the filter dropdown.
- Current period (solid blue line) - performance data for the current active time period up to the current date.
- Previous period (dotted grey line) - historical data from the comparative previous period, useful for viewing seasonal trends and trajectory changes.
Channel performance
The middle section shows two side-by-side widgets: a [Metric] per channel pie chart and a Breakdown per channel table.
The [Metric] per channel pie chart shows the distribution of the selected metric across your active channels.
The Breakdown per channel table shows sales performance metrics for each connected channel.
The table contains five columns:
- Name - the channel (marketplace) name.
- Orders - the total number of orders placed on that channel during the selected period.
- [Metric selected] - the revenue metric for that channel, updated based on the selected filter. E.g.: Total GMV including VAT.
- Surplus - the surplus earned on that channel. A plus sign (+) indicates growth; a minus sign (-) indicates a decrease.
- AOV - the average amount spent per order on that channel.
Country performance
The bottom section shows two side-by-side widgets: a Breakdown per delivery country table and a [Metric] per delivery country pie chart.
Use this section to track where your orders are delivered and inform your international sales and logistics decisions.
The Breakdown per delivery country table shows metrics broken down by the customer's destination country.
The table contains five columns:
- Country - the destination country where the orders were shipped. E.g.: Netherlands, Germany, France, Austria.
- Orders - the total number of orders delivered to that country.
- [Metric selected] - the revenue metric for that country, updated based on the selected filter.
- Surplus - the surplus earned in that country.
- AOV - the average amount spent per order in that country.
The [Metric] per delivery country pie chart shows how the selected metric is distributed across delivery countries.
Per product view
The Per product view shows your sales performance broken down by the structural layers of your catalog: brands, segments, active channels, and individual products.
The brand, segment, and channel sections each contain a pie chart and a table. In the pie charts, the center displays the combined total for the selected period and filters, each color-coded segment represents a share of the selected metric, and the legend below the chart lists the items included. Hover over a segment to see its detailed metrics.
Brand performance
The [Metric] per brand pie chart and the Breakdown per brand table show performance metrics for each brand in your catalog. Use this section to identify your best and worst performing brands.
The table contains four columns:
- Brand - the brand or manufacturer name.
- Quantity count - the total number of units ordered under that brand during the selected period.
- [Metric selected] - the revenue metric for that brand, updated based on the selected filter. E.g.: Total GMV including VAT.
- Surplus - the surplus earned on that brand. A plus sign (+) indicates growth; a minus sign (-) indicates a decrease.
Segment performance
The Breakdown per segment table and the [Metric] per segment pie chart show performance metrics for each of your custom product groups. Use this section to identify which product strategy or category is driving your business.
The table contains four columns:
- Name - the name assigned to your product segment.
- Quantity count - the total number of units ordered within that segment during the selected period.
- [Metric selected] - the revenue metric for that segment, updated based on the selected filter.
- Surplus - the surplus earned in that segment.
Channel performance
The [Metric] per channel pie chart and the Breakdown per channel table show performance metrics for each connected channel, based on product-level data.
The table contains five columns:
- Name - the channel (marketplace) name.
- Quantity count - the total number of units ordered through that channel during the selected period.
- [Metric selected] - the revenue metric for that channel, updated based on the selected filter.
- Surplus - the surplus earned on that channel.
- ASP (Average Selling Price) - the average price at which individual units were sold on that channel.
Product performance
The Breakdown per product table at the bottom of the tab shows performance metrics for individual products in your catalog. To find a specific product, use the search bar at the top of the tab.
The table contains six columns:
- Image - a thumbnail preview of the product. If no image is available, a placeholder is displayed.
- Details - the product name and its unique identifying tags, such as its merchant product number and GTIN.
- Quantity count - the total number of units ordered for that product during the selected period.
- [Metric selected] - the revenue metric for that product, updated based on the selected filter.
- Surplus - the surplus earned on that product.
- ASP (Average Selling Price) - the average price at which units of this product were sold during the selected period.
Filters
In the top right corner of the tab, use the filters to narrow down the data. The available filters depend on the selected view mode. To reset all filters, click Clear filters.
Filters in the Per order view
- Filter by channel - filter metrics by a specific channel.
- Time period - select the time frame you want to analyze. E.g.: today, this month, last month. If no suitable option is available, select Custom and configure your start and end dates as well as your timezone.
- Metric selector - select which metric to display across the tab. See Metrics.
Filters in the Per product view
The Per product view offers additional filters and a search bar:
- Search - search for a specific product. Enter a search term and select what to search in from the dropdown next to the field. E.g.: Product info (contains).
- Filter by channel - filter metrics by a specific channel.
- Segments - filter metrics by a segment. A segment is a custom product grouping that you define to view statistics for a specific subset of your catalog. E.g.: shoes.
- Labels - filter metrics by one or more product labels.
- Metric selector - select which metric to display across the tab. See Metrics.
- Time period - select the time frame you want to analyze. E.g.: today, this month, last month. If no suitable option is available, select Custom and configure your start and end dates as well as your timezone.
Sorting
By default, each table is sorted by the selected metric, from highest to lowest, e.g.: sorted by Total NMV including VAT if that is your selected metric.
You can sort data in every table and the related pie chart yourself.
Click the Sort order icon (the triangles) next to a column name, and click it again to reverse the order. The icon shows the active sort order: an upward triangle for ascending (lowest to highest), and a downward triangle for descending (highest to lowest).
- Numeric columns - e.g.: Orders, Quantity count, Surplus. Sort by the descending or ascending order.
- Text columns - e.g.: Name, Brand, and Country. Sort alphabetically from A to Z or from Z to A.
FAQs
How frequently are the statistics on this tab updated?
ChannelEngine aggregates and sums order line data once per hour, updating the statistics.
Why do the totals differ between the Per order and Per product views?
The Per order view includes shipping costs in its totals, and the Per product view does not. This means totals in the Per product view may be lower than in the Per order view for the same filtered dataset.
Which timezone do the statistics use?
ChannelEngine uses the timezone you selected with the Custom time period. If you did not select one, it uses the timezone configured in Account settings, My profile, which defaults to your browser timezone. See ChannelEngine: how to configure a timezone.
