ChannelEngine: marketplace fees
About this article
This article describes marketplace fees on ChannelEngine, how to configure them and how to use them.
Table of contents
Introduction
ChannelEngine allows you to view marketplace fees and assign the relevant fee to your products. When fees are not provided automatically by the marketplace, you can define a fixed fee and set up custom fee rates using this feature.
After configuring marketplace fees, you can include them in the product's price using price rules. To gain hands-on experience with marketplace fees, check out the microlearning ChannelEngine: marketplace fees.
Prerequisites
If you currently use pricing v1, you must activate pricing v2 before proceeding.
- Reach out to your ChannelEngine contact to activate Product pricing v2 setting.
- Once activated, go to the Setup page of the channel and locate the New beta pricing setting. The options are:
- Fully activated - adds the new pricing tabs and removes the pricing v1 tabs. This option is recommended for a go-live with the feature.
- Only screens for configuration - adds the new pricing tabs while keeping the pricing v1 tabs. This option is recommended for migration as it allows you to compare the old and new pricing setups.
- Off - pricing v2 is disabled.
Marketplace fees
Marketplace fee groups are sets of products that share the same commission percentage when sold on a marketplace. These fees do not always align with product categories but are rather based on the commission rates that the marketplace charges for different types of product.
To manage marketplace fees, go to Pricing, Marketplace fees. On this tab, you can view the fees imported from the marketplace, create your own fees, or set a default fee.
The marketplace fees table has several columns.
- ID - the unique ID of the fee group assigned by ChannelEngine,
- Fee group - the name of the fee group assigned by ChannelEngine. If the name is not provided by the marketplace, ChannelEngine comes up with its own name for the group.
- Threshold - the price range to which the fee group applies.
- Default percentage fee - the percentage that applies to this fee group. E.g.: 8%.
- Default fixed fee - the amount that applies to this fee group. E.g.: 10 EUR.
- Actions - the action you want to perform on the fee group, such as viewing.
ChannelEngine can fetch marketplace fee groups from Amazon and bol.
Custom fees
For marketplaces that do not provide their commission percentages, you can create custom fee groups manually.
- Click Custom fee groups, and add a custom fee group.
- Choose a name that best describes your fee group. E.g.: Basics and intimates.
- Set the price threshold for which the custom fee applies.
- Specify the Percentage fee, and if applicable, the Fixed fee.
- To specify a different fee for a product with a higher price point, click +Add bracket to add a fee.
- Set the price thresholds for which the custom fee applies.
- Click Add.
Progressive brackets
If you pay different commission percentages for various portions of the price, use progressive brackets. E.g.: you pay 10% for the portion of the price below 100 EUR, and 5% for the portion of the price above 100 EUR.
- Select +Add bracket.
- Set up the thresholds that define which commission percentage should be applied to different portions of the price.
- Toggle the Progressive brackets switch.
Example
First bracket:
- Threshold, upper boundary - €100.00.
- Percentage fee - 15%.
- This means 15% commission is charged on the portion of the price up to €100.00.
Second bracket:
- Threshold, lower boundary - automatically updated to €100.00.
- Upper boundary - left empty (for amounts above €100.00).
- Percentage fee - 8%
- This means 8% commission is charged on the portion of the price greater than €100.00.
Default fees
The default fees are applied in case custom fees are left empty. E.g.: if a fee cannot be fetched, or if a product is not correctly assigned to a fee group.
- Default fixed fee - the default fixed commission applied to products.
- Default percentage - the default percentage commission applied to the products.
Fee group mapping
To assign your products to a certain fee group, be it a marketplace one or a custom one, you need to map the products to the fee group ID.
- Go to Mappings, Offer mappings.
- Locate the Fee groups attribute.
- Map the Fee groups attribute to the corresponding ID. If you provide the fee group ID via a product feed or API (which is recommended), you can map these values directly to this attribute. Alternatively, you can create advanced rules to map this attribute more efficiently.
The fee group IDs can be viewed for Amazon and bol marketplaces under Pricing, Marketplace fees, [Channel name] fee groups. When the fee groups are empty, ask your contact person at ChannelEngine to run the ‘Import commission fees from channel’ task.
