ChannelEngine: "401 Unauthorized" error
About this article
This article describes the "401 Unauthorized error" that appears when activating a channel or merchant plugin, what causes the error, and how to troubleshoot it.
Introduction
If you see a "401 Unauthorized" error when you activate a channel or plugin, it means that the current credentials do not allow for successful API calls to be made to the channel or plugin.
ChannelEngine automatically disables most plugins if 401 errors are received. This is done to prevent a high number of failing API calls that ChannelEngine cannot correct. If your plugin is automatically disabled, you receive a notification in your account.
Troubleshooting
To resolve the 401 error:
- On ChannelEngine, go to the channel's or plugin's Setup step, and double-check the credentials or OAuth authorization. If the settings are incorrect, re-authorizing ChannelEngine should resolve the issue.
- To reauthorize the channel or plugin, go to the Activation step and toggle Activate again. If you have multiple accounts for the marketplace, make sure to authorize the correct account.
- If the channel or plugin deactivates again shortly after reauthorizing, contact the ChannelEngine Support team.
- If you are certain that the credentials are set correctly on ChannelEngine, contact the channel. Your credentials may have been revoked, an account setting may be invalid, the access tokens may have changed, etc. Marketplaces are known to revoke access based on incorrect/invalid payment details.
