Set up a percentage-based volume discount
Introduction
On bol, volume discounts allow you to offer customers a reduced unit price on items that are ordered in multiple quantities.
Using volume discounts, you can configure up to three volume discount tiers, with each tier comprising a minimum unit quantity and a corresponding unit price. The minimum quantity must be a whole number from two through 24.
Using volume discounts is optional. You can set one, two, or three discount tiers, or choose not to use volume discounts at all. Meanwhile, your normal offer price applies when a customer orders one unit.
Minimum quantities increase while unit prices decrease with each tier.
Example: three volume discount tiers
- Regular price at EUR 19.95 for one unit
- Two or more units at EUR 18.99 per unit
- Four or more units at EUR 17.99 per unit
The unit price for each tier is the price per unit, not the total price for the full quantity. E.g.: if the discounted total for two units is EUR 15.20, map EUR 7.60 as the unit price.

Pricing v1
To set up volume discounts when using pricing v1:
- On ChannelEngine, open your bol channel.
- Go to Mappings, Offer mappings and go to the optional attributes.
- Minimum quantity discount settings are configured in pairs: the minimum quantity and the corresponding unit price. To export a volume discount, you must map both values. If you map a minimum quantity, you must also map a unit price, and vice versa.
- Once you set up discounts, click Save.
Pricing v2
To set up volume discounts in pricing v2:
- On ChannelEngine, open your bol channel.
- Go to Mappings, Offer mappings, and access the optional attributes.
- Minimum quantity discount settings are configured in pairs: the minimum quantity and the corresponding unit price. To export a volume discount, you must map both values. If you map a minimum quantity, you must also map a unit price, and vice versa.
- Map your minimum quantities under Quantity discount n: min. quantity, and click Save.
- To map the corresponding unit prices, go to Pricing, Price rules.
- Map the corresponding unit price in the respective price attribute tab. E.g.: if you mapped Quantity discount 1: min. quantity in Offer mappings, map Quantity discount 1: min. quantity in Price rules.
- Once done, click Save.
The new discounts are exported during the next scheduled Export offers to channel task. The discount becomes visible on bol after the export completes and bol processes the update. Note that the discount is only displayed on bol when your offer holds the buy box.
If a volume discount fails validation, ChannelEngine excludes the affected offer from the export. Validation errors for the affected products are displayed at Listed products, Validation and feedback.
Example
On ChannelEngine
To set up a volume discount for a Belgian beer package:
- Set the regular price of the beer package to EUR 19.95.
- Add a discount tier so that when a customer orders two or more packages, the price per package is EUR 18.99.
- Add a second discount tier so that when a customer orders four or more packages, the price per package is EUR 17.99.
- There are no additional tiers beyond four packages, so no discount mapping is required.
On ChannelEngine, this example is set up as displayed in the following screenshot:

Pricing v1
To set up a percentage-based discount based on volume pricing, use price rules.
- Go to Pricing, Price rules, and click Add to create a new price rule.
- Create a dedicated Output for this rule to avoid conflicts with your regular pricing.
- Do not set the Output to Price.
- To add a new Output attribute, click Add next to the dropdown.
-
Use a distinctive name to identify this price rule.
Setting up price rules using pricing v1
- If you apply rounding, make sure the range is not too broad. E.g.: if your original price is 10.99 and you add two rules to apply discounts of 6% and 8% with rounding to the nearest .95, both round to 9.95.
- Click Save.
-
Go to Offer mappings and find the Quantity discount price attribute. In the dropdown, select your newly created price rule output.
Selecting your price rule output in Offer mappings -
The discounted prices should now appear in the mapping grid. Click Save to save the offer mappings.
Discounted prices in Offer mappings
Pricing v2
To set up a percentage-based discount based on volume pricing and using price rules v2, follow the steps below.
For a percentage-based volume discount on bol with pricing v2, map Quantity discount n: min. quantity in Offer mappings, and calculate the discounted unit price in Price rules.
1. Set the minimum quantity in bol offer mappings
Go to bol, Mappings, Offer mappings.
Map the relevant Quantity discount n: min. quantity field(s), for example:
- Quantity discount 1: min. quantity → '2'
- Quantity discount 2: min. quantity → '4'
- Quantity discount 3: min. quantity → '6'
2. Configure the percentage discount in price rules v2
Go to Pricing, Price rules, then open the bol price rule and select the applicable tier, e.g.: Quantity discount 1: price.
Create a calculation based on the regular calculated selling price:
- When repricing is used, add a Price link to the regular Price output - the price that is calculated after repricing.
- Add an Add percentage rule with a negative percentage, e.g. '-5'% for a 5% volume discount.
This makes the quantity-discount price dynamically follow the current repriced selling price rather than calculating from a fixed base price.
For multiple tiers, configure a separate output/rule per tier, for example:
| Minimum quantity | Price-rule calculation |
|---|---|
| 2 | Price link + -5% |
| 4 | Price link + -7.5% |
| 6 | Price link + -10% |
3. Ensure the pricing boundaries allow the discount
When repricing is used, ensure the Min. price also allows the discounted result. A practical approach is to apply the same discount percentage to the Min. price for that tier; otherwise, the minimum price may block the calculated volume-discount price.
Best practices
- bol expects the unit price, not the total price for the full quantity. A quantity-two tier at €15.20 means €15.20 per item, not €15.20 for both items.
- Quantity thresholds must increase, and tier prices must decrease. E.g.: quantities 2 → 4 → 6 and prices 19.95 → 18.95 → 17.95.
- Every mapped quantity tier requires its matching price tier; mapping only one of the pair causes validation issues.
- Check Export calculated prices before export, then review Listed products, Validation and feedback after the scheduled offer export.
- Do not set the regular unit price lower than any volume discount unit price. This may lead to unexpected behavior, especially if you use repricing that allows the regular price to drop below a discounted unit price.
- Format the prices correctly. Prices must be properly formatted as decimal values. E.g.:
30.25 = correct
30 . 25 = incorrect (spaces make the value unparseable) - Keep minimum quantities within the valid range. Set each minimum quantity to a whole number from 2 through 24, inclusive. Values outside this range cause the offer export to fail.
